Pamalikan Island Paradise in South Borneo

Indahnya Pulau Pamalikan di Kalimantan Selatan

Kotabaru Regency, located in South Kalimantan, has a beauty that has not yet been exposed. There is one island that has the potential to become a new marine tourism object, namely Pamalikan Island in Pulau Sembilan Sub-district.

Pulau Sembilan sub-district itself has an area of 4.76 square kilometers, with the capital city of Marabatuan. To get to this sub-district, you can sail on a pioneer ship from Kotabaru.

Pamalikan Island Paradise in South Borneo

Pamalikan in Mandar language means drifting. According to the residents of the Mandar Kotabaru tribe, the name Pamalikan Island is inseparable from the story that this island is separated from its mother, Matasiri, and is far from residential locations.

"Pamalikan Island has amazing tourism potential, including being a breeding ground for several types of turtles," said a member of Commission III of the Kotabaru DPRD, Ihtiar Samsul Alam, as quoted by Kompas.

Actually, Pamalikan Island can be a tourist spot as well as a place for conservation of sea turtles included in the protected animal group. However, efforts are needed to maintain the turtle population on the island.

Pamalikan Island is indeed a place to see turtles. The beach has white sand on the east and west sides of the island. On this island, there is a place for turtles to lay their eggs and is separated by beach vegetation, such as sea pandanus, sea waru, kirinyuh, ketapang, kepuh, and sea kale.

According to Didit Eko Prasetiyo, Head of the Banjarmasin Work Unit of the Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL), there are two types of sea turtles in the waters of Pulau Sembilan, namely green turtles and hawksbill turtles.

Green turtles can lay 100-150 eggs at a time, which can take hours. Unfortunately, the two turtles that live here have one thing in common: they are endangered.

"To maintain their sustainability, we invite the community to utilize sea turtles in a sustainable manner, namely by making them into marine tourism," Didit said.

Not only sea turtles, in the vegetation of Pamalikan Beach we can also find several types of birds, including sea gulls, seagulls, and sea swallows. If you are interested in swimming or diving, you can also see a stretch of coral reef behind the clear sea water.

The Head of Kotabaru Regency's Marine and Fisheries Service does have a desire to develop several small islands in Kotabaru as marine tourism destinations, but only as limited tourist attractions so as not to disturb the turtles.
